Memphis Grizzlies: 5 players performing well so far this season
By Chris Kern
Shelvin Mack
Shelvin Mack has come in and been that point guard the Grizzlies have been missing. No disrespect to Andrew Harrison because he did a lot of good things with the team but Mack has been on another level.
The Grizzlies signed Mack late in the offseason and it has turned out great for both teams. He is playing the best basketball of his career and is playing with a lot of confidence.
He is averaging a career-best 11.5 points per game while also shooting a career-best from the field, as well as three-point range.
His three-point makes are at 47.2% while making 51.9% of his shots overall. His free-throw percentage is at just 67.7% which is a concern but he has more than made up for it in other areas.
He has bought into the Grizzlies defensive intensity as he has averaged 1.2 steals per game thus far. He has never been a great defender but he has done his part so far in Memphis.
His offense is where he’s made the biggest impact. When Conley has been struggling Mack has picked up the slack in a big way.
He scored double digits in both road victories against Utah and has made countless clutch shots in what seems to be every game.
Mack had a 16 point, 6 rebound, and 5 assist game in the win over Milwaukee Monday night. He had 11 points in the third quarter to help them extend the lead to 15 points before the allowed the Bucks to go on that big run.
He has been big offensively for this team and has complimented Conley excellently in the backcourt. His play has been needed in many games and he has delivered. If he can keep that up going forward he will have the best season of his career.
