Marc Gasol Takes Over

Marc Gasol dominated this game in every possible way. He got off to a slow start offensively, as did the rest of the team.

His offense was fantastic but it was his defense that set the tone for this game. He did a good job defensively on Karl-Anthony Towns, holding him to just 15 points on 6-10 shooting.

Gasol had 13 rebounds which is very encouraging to see him after having a similar impact on the boards in Friday’s win.

His impact on defense didn’t stop there. He had three blocks and two steals which he has done often so far this season.

Gasol is tied for 11th in the league with 1.7 steals per game.

He hasn’t had the impact blocking shots he may be used to but he is still averaging 0.9 per game which is tied for 42nd in the league.

A lot of his low block number has to do with his Jackson Jr. taking on the role of the teams shot blocker.

He is currently averaging 1.8 blocks per game which is tied for 11th in the NBA.

Yes, he was dominant defensively but it was his offense that provided the separation in this game needed for the Grizzlies to secure a victory.

He finished the game with 25 points on 8-13 shooting. He also made four three-pointers which were all key to extending the second half lead.

It’ll be interesting to see how long Gasol is able to sustain this level of play. They don’t need him to be this good every night but if he is they will be extremely tough to beat.
