Memphis Grizzlies Need Not to Ponder Mike Conley for John Wall Trade Scenario
The Benefits
Team records do not tell the full story. Yes, John Wall began the year shooting 12% from beyond the arc. However, oddly enough, he went 4/7 from deep versus the Memphis Grizzlies on October 30th and he has been gaining traction ever since.
Meanwhile, Mike Conley has been leading his team to victory after victory, and though his shot has not been falling at a high rate until recently, Wall has been the more efficient player this season.

Conley has been stellar and it has been great to see him bounce back to form. One year ago, it seemed as if his NBA career may be close to being done. If the Grizzlies’ winning ways continue, Mike should surely reach NBA All-Star status for the first time in his 12-year career.
Even at that, John Wall is more than an All-Star player. He is one of the best names in the NBA. He is one of the league’s elite. Plus, he is a two-way player much like Mike Conley.
Wall is currently producing 1.3 points, 0.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks more than Conley. The Wizards’ starting point guard is also shooting 3.8% better from the field. All in all, John is slightly more efficient than Mike, yet it is tough to find point guards as focused as these two.
If the Memphis Grizzlies were to land John Wall, the major benefit his superstar label. He is a five-time NBA All-Star and he is not done yet. Plus, he has the aura to draw other big names to join him when the NBA Free-Agency opens during each offseason. This could become a gateway to get more star talent to select Memphis, Tennessee as their preferred home city. Crazy, huh?!
This is an opportunity where Memphis can remain “good,” but should the Front Office sacrifice what they have built in order to take a swing at becoming “great?” It may be too early into this season for them to mentally answer this question.
