Mike Conley Takeover

Mike Conley‘s struggles are long gone as he scored 30 points to lead the Grizzlies to a tough road win against the Spurs.

He shot 11-23 from the field including 3-7 from three-point range. He is shooting the ball with much higher efficiency than he was early in the season.

Conley is playing with a lot of confidence and the rest of the team has followed suit. The role players haven’t scored the ball as they did early in the season but they aren’t needed to do so like they were to start the season.

He ran the offense like he was capable of finishing with nine assists. He puts a lot of pressure on the defense and it allowed some open looks for his teammates.

His play in the fourth quarter might’ve been the best basketball we’ve seen from him all season.  He had 14 points in the quarter when the offense was really struggling.

Memphis trust Conley and Gasol to make enough plays down the stretch to win games. They missed some open looks but they did just enough to come out on top.

His season averages continue to go up and his percentages are at least respectable though he would like to see them continue to rise.

He is averaging 20.2 points on 42% from the field and 35% from three-point range. He’s playing the best basketball of his career and is an early all-star game candidate.

That’s what Grizzlies basketball is all about. They battle all game long as they’re bringing back the grit and grind mentality.

That phrase is thrown around a lot but they truly do play by it. It starts with Conley at the point guard spot and his stellar play is why Memphis is up to first place in the west.
