Jevon Carter’s NBA Debut

Blake Monroe: “There had been a lot of hype surrounding the need and the expectations of rookie Jevon Carter, especially with the backup point guard struggles the Memphis Grizzlies were having by late-November.

Carter has been playing at an All-Star level with the G-League’s Memphis Hustle, and many wondered what he could do on Beale Street for the Grizzlies.

For those that wondered, they found out on December 15th with Memphis’ match up against the Houston Rockets. That night, Jevon Carter was tasked with guarding the All-Star duo of James Harden as well as Chris Paul.

Both of these players are veterans and here Carter is, his first official regulation NBA game, head-to-head with Harden and Paul. This star-studded matchup did not distract Carter, for he was able to strip the ball from both of the Rockets’ superstars, which led to buckets by the rookie.

In 22 minutes of play, Jevon Carter scored 11 points and had 2 steals. He has been patient and continues to be patient but his NBA debut showed the Memphis Grizzlies and the rest of the league that he is needed on the court. His play will continue to make waves in the G- League, and hopefully soon again on Beale Street.”
