A Front Office Ousting?

Perhaps Marc Gasol and Mike Conley are becoming increasingly angry with a bad situation that has been ongoing for far too long. This would be none other than the Memphis Grizzlies’ General Manager, Chris Wallace.

From poor decisions at the NBA Draft, a lack of player development, bad coaching hires, awful free-agent signings, and a misjudgment of NBA trades, Gasol and Conley have lived it all during Wallace’s time in the big seat.

This is something that the aforementioned coaching selection may have something to do with, too. If No. 33 and No. 11 want Bickerstaff gone immediately, then they probably want Wallace out of town as well. This may be why the two veterans met with Robert Pera, the majority owner, rather than the team’s General Manager.

There has already been a strong belief that 2018-19 will be the last season for Chris Wallace running operations for the Memphis Grizzlies, and a move at this point — after all the ups and downs over his many years in the 901 — does not make much sense.

Wallace has been eager to make moves, even prior to the start of this season. He also landed Justin Holiday from Chicago, but gave up a decent amount of talent plus future Draft picks to land an outside shooter. Through Holiday’s first seven games, he has only stood out in one of those, which happened to be on Friday versus the Boston Celtics.

This was not enough help to accompany Gasol and Conley, plus they gave up two players and plus two future picks just to land Holiday, a player that seemingly does not fit the Grizzlies’ system.

The heat may be on for not only J.B. Bickerstaff, but also Chris Wallace. At the season’s midpoint, he may not end the schedule with the Memphis Grizzlies.
