Second-Chance Points

If there is one particular category that could be pinpointed in the Memphis Grizzlies’ offensive woes of this current decade, it would hands-down be three-point shooting.

New era? Same issues for the Grizz. They currently sit as the 27th-worst three-point shooting squad in the NBA at All-Star break. Though Mike Conley is a 35.4% outside shooter this season and 37.4% over the course of his NBA career, this is a facet of Memphis’ game that has not yet been altered.

In Saturday’s Skills Challenge, Conley was so far ahead of Jayson Tatum that he almost had enough time to get off a second three-point shot attempt prior to Tatum attempting his first.

Conley’s first attempt was rushed, which was a miss. His second try was a brick, too. As Jayson Tatum connected on his second-chance attempt, Mike splashed his third try, but it was too late. Tatum was the victor of the head-to-head match.

This correlates to the Memphis Grizzlies being a poor second-chance points club in addition to a struggling outside-shooting squad. The Grizz also rank dead last in the NBA in second-chance scoring at just 10 second-chance points per contest.

On a night that Mike Conley and the Memphis Grizzlies needed some NBA All-Star luck, none showed up in No. 11’s favor.
