4 Ways Mike Conley’s Skills Challenge Performance Symbolizes Memphis Grizzlies’ Season
Conveyance
In viewing Mike Conley’s Skills Challenge first-round matchup as a whole, it boils down to Memphis Grizzlies versus Boston Celtics. This head-to-head duel was a major talking point at the beginning of the season. It remains today. Plus, it will be the No. 1 topic of discussion for the Grizzlies leading into May’s NBA Draft Lottery.

If you have not heard by now, the Grizzlies must finish in the top-eight at the Draft Lottery, otherwise, their first-round Draft pick will be conveyed to the Celtics. That is, if Memphis also fails to reach the postseason, which is almost impossible with their underachieving record through 59 games.
Additionally, if the Memphis Grizzlies retain their pick this year, it will then be conveyed to Boston in 2020. And if not 2020, then absolutely by 2021.
It is inevitable that the Boston Celtics will receive first-round pick compensation from Memphis at some point in the near future, and Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace has stated that they want to get that out of the way as soon as possible.
This is a big reason why Mike Conley is still in a Grizzlies uniform after the NBA Trade Deadline. He helps Memphis win more games now, which is the Front Office’s top goal through the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
Given these facts, it seems more than coincidence that a Grizzly was set to face a Celtic in the first round of Saturday’s Skills Challenge. What are the odds?! Scripted? No. Rather, this is called fate. And the Celtics being the winner? Well, there is a good chance history repeats itself come Draft time.
