The Memphis Grizzlies have continued to build their team towards the future in recent weeks. One of their young players is Bruno Caboclo and he put up a huge performance in the Grizzlies win over the Thunder.

The Memphis Grizzlies have shifted their focus towards the future since they made some big moves at the NBA Trade Deadline. One of those moves was when they signed Bruno Caboclo to a 10-day contract in late January.

His raw talent has never been in question, but his ability to put it together has been an issue. He has struggled at times, but he showed enough during his two 10-day contracts that the team opted to sign him to a multi-year deal.

His length defensively is one of the things that makes him such an exciting player. This is a team that has shifted their focus to become a more offensive minded team, but with players such as Caboclo on the team, they’re able to still be very good on the defensive end.

During his first 26 games with the team, he is averaging 6.8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He hasn’t filled up the stat sheet, but he has started 12 games so the team has liked him enough to give him a larger role. Sure some of that has to do with so many injuries, but he has made the most of his increased role.

It will be interesting to see how he fits on the team next season. They will likely bring back the majority of the roster as well as maybe a few new faces to go with all the injured players who will be returning. He may not have big minutes, but if he continues to put up performances like the one in the Grizzlies win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, then expect him to be a part of the rotation next season.

In this game, he was good on both ends of the floor as he showed how good he can be while disproving some of his so-called weaknesses. Caboclo finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists, while also registering a steal and a block.

Those 24 points set a career-high in scoring for Caboclo. He has had some moments this season where he would make a few big shots, but this game he put it all together. He went 8-13 from the field including 4-7 from three-point range.

His three-point shooting has been a concern of his as he continues to improve his game, but he has started to already improve. During this season with the Grizzlies, he is shooting 33% from three-point range and with performances like this, he has shown he has already improved in that area.

When he has been playing he hasn’t been a big part of the offense in the majority of the games. He has made shots, but overall he isn’t a main part of the offense. They were without Mike Conley in this game so they relied on a full team effort.

The Grizzlies have continued to shift towards a more team-oriented offensive game. They’ve been so focused on an offense led by Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, but now they are thinking towards the future. In this game, the numbers backed that up as all five starters finished with 12-14 shot attempts. They all were effective as well as they all scored at least 17 points with Caboclo’s 24 leading the way.

His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor makes him a very valuable player going forward. If he can continue to improve on the offensive end of the floor then he will have a chance to become a very good player for the long haul. The Grizzlies continue to build this team and Caboclo has a chance to be a part of this franchise for the long haul.
