Capping Off a Spectacular Month

March Madness is not only for the NCAA Tournament. As fans of the Memphis Grizzlies have found out in 2019, this particular month belongs to Mike Conley, too.

Mike received the Western Conference Player of the Week award on March 11th. This was the peak of his clutch month which he has produced 26.0 points per game on 49.7% shooting (44.6% from deep) to go with 3.2 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 0.8 steals per game through nine total games.

Furthermore, Conley has notched two of his 10 double-doubles of the 2018-19 season during this month of March. Plus, his first 40-point performance of his 12-season career happened in this same stretch. While most people may be overlooking the Memphis Grizzlies due to their mediocre record, “Captain Clutch” is setting the association on fire. He has been astounding, and is certianly increasing his chances for Western Conference Player of the Month accolades.

With two games remaining on this month’s schedule for the Grizzlies, Mike Conley is not done. He continues to take his game to the next level, thus proving himself as a true All-Star Game snub of 2019. Additionally, he is strengthening his own trade appeal, assuming Memphis’ trade discussions actually gain momentum when the offseason arrives.

Mike Conley’s record-breaking night against Golden State is the latest accomplishment in a highlight reel of a month. If this truly is the final stretch of No. 11’s tenure with the Memphis Grizzlies, there could be no better way for him to put the finishing touches on his time in the 901. Though another deep playoff run would be nice, the team is playing their most exciting basketball of the season.

The legend of Mike Conley is still growing in Memphis, Tennessee. At 31 years of age, it was unlikely to see him improve his game, but that is exactly what has taken place in the 2018-19 NBA season, especially in the month of March.
