Stay Put At 8: 31.2%

The Grizzlies also have a good chance to stay put right where they are, with the 8th pick in the draft. This is the unfavorable scenario for the team, but they would still have a chance to select a quality player who can be a key part of their future.

Players such as Coby White, Cam Reddish, and DeAndre Hunter all would have the possibility of being available here and they could all become very good players. They each have some flaws which are why they’re dropping down below the top prospects, but they still have a lot to bring to the table.

The players in this range probably won’t ever become featured options on a good team, but they should be good enough to be a third or fourth option on a team making playoff runs. You can always hope to find a star at this spot, but you also have to be realistic.

In history, the number eight picks have not traditionally done well. The best number eight selections in the 2010s are guys such as Terrence Ross and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Last year it was Collin Sexton and there’s hope he can be the answer at point guard long-term for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The recent number eight picks that have been underwhelming could be very alarming for Grizzlies fans. With Memphis’ draft struggles of their own, it’s tough to have the confidence in them that they’d be able to break the trend that’s been developing. There will be players here who can contribute though, and the Grizzlies will need to make this selection count.

If you’re going to be successful you have to be able to make good picks in these spots as well. If the Grizzlies are able to get a good starting caliber player with this pick it would be a success. The rebuild isn’t going to happen overnight, but they need to remain patient and continue to acquire good, young talent.
