Winners and Losers: Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs
By Ethan Becker
Losers: Dillon Brooks
And with this entry, we go from a player who went from gathering criticism to earning praise, to one that went from earning praise to possibly earning a spot on the bench.
Dillon Brooks performance in this game carried on from his poor performance against the Portland Trail Blazers, and unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like he learned any lesson from that game.
Brooks recorded 16 points, which while it may seem like a nice outing by the looks of it, he did so 7-20 shooting from the field. He did manage three assists and two rebounds to go with the scoring outing, but he also committed five fouls, including one on DeMar DeRozan at the end of the game which, while possibly excusable, did seal the game for the Spurs.
However, the biggest area for improvement for Brooks was in his 3-point shooting and shot selection. Brooks went 1-7 from 3-point range, and whether it was a 3 or a two, Brooks seemed to really try to force his shot up rather than pass around and look for the best shot.
If this continues, Brooks could find himself moving to the bench. Especially when Jones returns, and the Grizzlies won’t be so strapped for guards anymore.
