Desmond Bane has been another surprising rookie

Before this season began, nobody thought that the Grizzlies would be looking for much production from their two rookies. Yes, there was always the possibility of these guys being thrust into the spotlight, but the young talent that was already on this squad seemed to be enough.

Hopes were still high for this year’s first round pick in Desmond Bane, but without the possibility of being let down. It was a great situation for everyone involved. And it’s already starting to pay off. Bane is averaging double digit points, paired with a staggering 48.2% shooting from the field.

This is significant because the Memphis Grizzlies are not a productive team from 3-point range. They shoot the ball well, but the game plan does not include a lot of 3-point shots. They currently only take 31 shots from beyond the arch each game, a number that needs to be increased if this team wants to get into a rhythm.

This may not be something that Taylor Jenkins is looking to patch up immediately, but we should be seeing a higher number of long shots next season. This would come just in time, as Jaren Jackson Jr. should be permanently back in the squad and Desmond Bane could emerge as a high-volume shooter for this team.
