Where Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant ranks: Superstar-level comparisons

Ja Morant is definitely not at the point where he can be considered a superstar, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be able to compare him to the top point guards in the league. As a position that leads the team, point guard is a spot that has arguably the most superstars of any spot in basketball.

Guys in this category include Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, and Russell Westbrook. There are some other guys who run the point, like Luka Doncic, but that’s the list of pure point guard superstars in this league.

As for Morant, he has the potential to break onto that list. His best comparison to these superstars would probably be Russell Westbrook, an aging star who has put up some of the best numbers in the history of the game. Morant has the athleticism to be a similar star, facilitating the game using his rare athleticism.

He’ll look back at the careers of Westbrook and the youngest MVP in the history of the league, Derrick Rose in order to get an idea of how to succeed as a pure athlete in the league. Both of these guys have an MVP award under their belt, so for Morant, the sky is the limit with the Memphis Grizzlies.
