Where Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant ranks: Young rising stars

When you’re looking for the category that Morant falls into, it’s fairly obvious where to place him. He’s one of the best young players in the game and a generational athletic talent. In that aspect, he’s similar to Zion Williamson, just at a different position and with a different type of athleticism.

But at the point guard spot, Morant is in a category of his own. He’s a hyper-athlete in his second year in the league, with only a few other guys matching his level of play. The other NBA point guards that are around his age and skill level are De’Aaron Fox, Trae Young, and Jamal Murray.

As the youngest in the room, Morant still has the highest ceiling. He’s 21-years old with a chip on his shoulder after missing out on the All-Star game during the first year where he was considered. If not for early injuries, Morant would have likely appeared on the reserves list this week.

Regardless, the Grizzlies’ point guard is in the company of the league’s next great ball handlers, keeping his name near the top of the list. He’s like De’Aaron Fox, but he got out to a better start. But where does this rank him overall?
