Giving starters and role players a bit of rest

The Grizzlies had a spectacular night in Houston on Sunday. So much so that, as mentioned earlier, seven guys scored in double digits. With how deep the bench was in the game, Head Coach Taylor Jenkins gave those players a bit more time than usual.

The minutes were distributed pretty fairly in the game. In fact, not a single starter played over 30 minutes. Starting big man Jonas Valanciunas played 13 minutes in the game due to foul trouble, but that won’t be used negatively against him.

Three players off the bench played over 20 minutes, while five played over 15 minutes. Every guy that was able to play did and made use of the time they got.

The Grizzlies young star Ja Morant is averaging over 30 minutes a game on the season, with 11 of his last 13 games played over 30 minutes. For Morant to get only 26 minutes, this game is huge for the team, especially seeing that they may be in contention for a playoff spot.

If Memphis can keep up games like this, there will be no more doubts about their future. Doing this without a player like Jaren Jackson Jr. is enormous for the team, and it will only get better when he returns to the lineup.
