The Memphis Grizzlies have been playing strong, but haven’t established much consistency so far in 2021. For every strong win, they’d have an equally bad loss, keeping this team stagnated around .500.

But this team seemed to take a step forward on Tuesday. They came into the game with an aggressiveness that we hadn’t seen for a while. Even without one of their stars, they were completely dominating a game against a pretty strong Washington Wizards team.

Yes, the Wizards have had a bad season, but this is a squad with serious firepower. Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal are going to show up to play each and every night. But Taylor Jenkins’ team wasn’t about to just let it happen. He buckled down and brought it to D.C.

The Memphis Grizzlies had to fight for this win

And unlike recent wins, this one didn’t begin with a dominant start. In fact, the Grizzlies looked like the worse team for the entire first quarter. Russell Westbrook was heating up for the Wizards and Memphis was committing countless bad turnovers.

But they’d tighten up on offense, holding onto the ball for the rest of the game. In the end, they had just over half the amount of turnovers as Washington did.

Just as quickly as they started holding onto the ball, they would go on a huge run that put them up by double digits before the first half. Much of this was on the back of Ja Morant, but De’Anthony Melton was huge, hitting six 3-pointers on the night.

This team is looking great, and they’re playing their best basketball at the perfect time.
