Memphis Grizzlies: 3 goals for the remainder of the 2021 season

The Memphis Grizzlies have officially completed the first half of their season. Looking back, it’s been a great ride so far. We’ve learned a lot about guys on this team who didn’t have high expectations.

They finished the first half of the year on a heartbreaking loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. If not for some questionable officiating, this could have easily been a win. But the calls didn’t go their way and they barely lost, still putting up a strong performance.

Each and every player has matured in just over 30 games, and this team has to have a ton of confidence going into the the NBA All-Star break.

Ja Morant has been steadily improving, Jonas Valanciunas has been holding things down in the paint, and Kyle Anderson has had a breakout year at the small forward position. Even Justise Winslow has given this team a jolt of excitement after returning from injury.

But this team isn’t done yet, not even close. In fact, the real challenge begins after the All-Star break. Everything that this team has built up will have to take a step back with the return of Jaren Jackson Jr.

Team chemistry will take a hit, the rotation will change, and the entire game plan will shift. Do we believe in Taylor Jenkins to make this a smooth transition?

So far, the answer has to be yes. He has done a great job adjusting when times get tough, leading this team to a successful first half of the season without a star player. Don’t expect things to be great immediately, but this team should be in a position to produce come playoff time.
