Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers: Pau Gasol and Marc Gasol

This trade happened so long ago that it’s hard to remember why people thought it was a bad deal. The Grizzlies weren’t winning with Pau Gasol and had the opportunity to bring in a huge haul of players, picks, and future opportunity.

They would capitalize on this, dealing out Pau for his brother, Marc Gasol. At the time though, Marc wasn’t much of a player. In fact, as mentioned, everybody thought that the Grizzlies got the bad end of this deal.

But with all of the Lakers draft picks over the next couple of years, a handful of players, and Marc Gasol, who would go on to be one of the greatest players in franchise history, it’s safe to say that Memphis won this one.

Pau Gasol would have a great career on the Lakers, winning multiple titles alongside Kobe Bryant, but this deal worked out for the best of everybody involved. The Grizzlies continued to rebuild, with Pau’s little brother leading the charge.

The next piece of this rebuild would follow shortly after.
