In past Memphis Grizzlies wins, the team has come to a victory by way of bench scoring.

We saw a prime example of this in the Grizzlies record-setting 49-point win against the Houston Rockets. In that game, the Grizzlies set a new record for bench points.

High bench scoring wasn’t a fluke against the Rockets either. The Memphis Grizzlies have gotten incredible production out of every player that has received significant playing time off the bench so far this season.

Fortunately for the Grizzlies, that has been a lot of players.

It’s been impossible to distinguish who the 6th man is on this team due to a flood of talent coming off of the bench. It’s everything that this team could have asked for in Jaren Jackson Jr.’s absence and the results are translating to the win-loss column.

The Memphis Grizzlies didn’t need their bench against the Warriors

Generally speaking, the Grizzlies trend of getting big bench production in their wins has held true. That being said, they’d break this streak of successful bench games in their win on Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors.

In fact, Taylor Jenkins’ bench unit didn’t just not have an impact, they actually held back this Grizzlies team for a bulk of the game.

The average (+/-) for players coming off of the bench was (-7) on the night. Meanwhile, here’s what the starters looked like in the (+/-) category:

Kyle Anderson: +20

Dillon Brooks: +22

Jonas Valanciunas: +17

Ja Morant: +8

Grayson Allen: +10

As you can see, every single guy in the starting lineup either matched or exceeded the Grizzlies margin of victory.

You can take a few different angles on this situation, but overall, this is a good thing for the Memphis Grizzlies. We know that the bench is capable, but we have yet to see the starters consistently take over games.

It’ll be a trend to watch for as the season progresses and should become more of a theme when Jaren Jackson Jr. returns to the Grizzlies.

Next. Jonas Valanciunas is becoming an NBA star. dark

We can have confidence that the bench will bounce back, but it’s not every day that you see a dominant game from every member of the starting lineup. Enjoy it while it’s fresh.
