Jaren Jackson Jr. makes the Memphis Grizzlies will be a better 3-point shooting team

We just spoke about the Memphis Grizzlies’ struggles to defend the three-ball, but that’s not their only 3-point problem. On the offensive end, they haven’t been a very strong 3-point shooting team.

At the beginning of the year, they actually stood in the top ten for a while in terms of 3-point field goal percentage. That would quickly fade though, as the Grizzlies would start to fire up bricks every single game. It has been hard to watch at times.

This has put this Grizzlies team at 24th in the NBA in 3-point percentage. For those wondering, that’s out of 30 qualifying NBA teams. That’s not a good look in a modern NBA.

A large portion of the blame can be assigned to the fact that one of their best 3-point shooters in Jaren Jackson Jr. has been out. In fact, Jackson Jr. was second to Grayson Allen in 3-point percentage of players who took at least 3 long-shots per game.

Jackson Jr. will also distract defenders, creating more space for Ja Morant and other struggling Grizzlies to get open looks on the outside. I’ll get more into that on another slide, but his impact goes beyond what meets the eye.

The Grizzlies won’t become a top ten 3-point shooting team overnight upon Jackson Jr.’s return, but he’ll be a game-changer in that aspect for Memphis.
