Memphis Grizzlies NBA Draft Prospect: James Bouknight

James Bouknight is an interesting prospect. Of each of the prospects listed in this article, he makes the least sense for the Grizzlies. He can be an extremely streaky shooter and has minor injury concerns, missing over a month of basketball this past season after undergoing surgery on his elbow.

That said, he’s an extremely interesting prospect that may be available when the Memphis Grizzlies’ pick comes along. The UConn guard was the strongest scorer of these prospects and can put the ball in the bucket when he needs to.

Bouknight an excellent shot creator who has a knack for making plays. He’s a capable dribbler, but tends to over-dribble at times, sometimes leading to broken plays and unnecessary turnovers. Thankfully, this is something that can be coached out of him.

At 6’5″ and 190 pounds, his body has room to fill out, so he’ll be another longer-term prospect. That said, he has shown that he is a capable defender at the college level. He may see some early struggles in the league, but he should be able to develop into a serviceable defensive player.

The primary issue here is that he may be swept off of the board before the Grizzlies have a chance to draft him. He’s currently projected for the NBA Draft Lottery and Memphis has been playing themselves out of the lottery conversation in a hurry.
