Memphis Grizzlies C Jonas Valanciunas has been a lock for double-doubles

While his rebounding number is the best individual stat on this list, there is another figure that Jonas Valanciunas has brought to the table that has been extremely impressive. The double-double.

While the double-double isn’t going to win you any awards or get you a huge contract, it’s an impressive statistic to look at in hindsight. And with Valanciunas, a double-double is becoming the norm on Beale Street.

In an away win at the Hawks, JV recorded his 12th consecutive double-double. This puts him at third in the league in total double-doubles on the year, tied with Rudy Gobert with 36 of them in 44 games on the year.

The idea of getting double-digit points and rebounds that many times is impressive, but that’s not the best part of this number. The best part is the consistency that this shows for the Grizzlies’ veteran center.

As the youngest team in the NBA, consistency has been the Grizzlies’ Achilles heel. Ja Morant has been the conductor of the inconsistency train, unable to have strong back-to-back games at any point this season. There’s nothing to be concerned about — at just 21-years old, we can have confidence that he’ll figure things out.

That said, it’s been extremely refreshing to have instant consistency from Jonas Valanciunas. Without a doubt, he has been a top 5 center in the NBA this season and might be the reason why the Grizzlies have exceeded all expectations in 2021.
