The Memphis Grizzlies were not the worst shooting team in the league last season. In fact, at times, they were an extremely strong long-range shooting squad. That said, they went through a few slumps, and overall, they struggle from deep.

While there are redeeming players on the roster like Jaren Jackson Jr., De’Anthony Melton, Grayson Allen, and Desmond Bane, Memphis doesn’t really have a reliable shot-maker. This past season, each of the aforementioned players went through slumps, with the rookie seemingly becoming the most consistent of the bunch.

In the 2021 NBA Draft, Memphis may be able to add a player that will improve the team’s long-distance shooting.

Corey Kispert is the draft’s best shooter and would instantly elevate this team from deep

I’ve already given my thoughts on the fact that the Grizzlies will have a very telling draft. In fact, I made the argument that Memphis may be best-suited trading up for a higher-profile player. The amount of depth already at the wing position may turn their long-distance shooting problems into a permanent stain on the stat sheet.

That said, if they do not decide to trade up, Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert would be the perfect fit on the Grizzlies’ roster. Here’s why.

Throughout his four seasons with Gonzaga, Kispert gradually improved as a shooter. He went from being an above-average 3-point shooter to an elite deep threat. Each year with the Bulldogs saw his 3-point percentage improve, peaking at 44% in his senior season.

He did all of this while taking an extremely high volume of shots with over 6 long range attempts per contest.

The argument could be made for a few other players being better shooters in this year’s draft, but Kispert has to be considered the best volume shooter in his class.

The downsides of drafting Kispert are the fact that he doesn’t have a star ceiling. This would be a low risk pick that would likely reap relatively sizable rewards in the immediate future. Kispert cannot create off of the dribble and isn’t a particulary strong defender.

The best part about Kispert, however, is that he’s a player that can fit in without being the number one option on his team. He knows how to join a team and help them win, even if he isn’t the guy scoring 30 points on any given night.

Next. What Grizzlies do with No. 17 pick will be very telling. dark

Kispert would be a pick that would help the Grizzlies, limited them in the long-term future. If you’re a Grizz fan, you can’t be upset about this, but you’ll be hoping for a higher-ceiling draft pick. In the short term, Kispert fits like a glove.
