Grizzlies: 3 lineups to be excited about in 2021-22
The Bench Mob: Tyus Jones, De’Anthony Melton, Desmond Bane, Brandon Clarke, Xavier Tillman
This lineup combination– an all-bench unit for the Memphis Grizzlies—was one we saw in 10 different games last season, according to NBA Advanced Stats.
This Memphis Grizzlies line-up was one of the most efficient and effective line-ups put together by Coach Taylor Jenkins last season.
Usually making their appearance during the 2nd quarter of games, the lineup registered a net rating of 19.3—the second-best net rating on the Memphis Grizzlies that did not feature a starter in the line-up.
When this lineup combination was used, the team was 8-2 in those games.
Fans should look forward to seeing this combination more often next season. The growth of second-year players Desmond Bane and Xavier Tillman will only help this unit become even more productive.
It’ll be interesting to see if Clarke can take a step forward next season, after experiencing a non-plussed season that saw his productivity stagnate.
Melton has shown steady improvement since arriving in Memphis in 2019 and Jones is one of the best players on the team in protecting the basketball.
Jones averaged 0.7 turnovers per game last season, enough for second-best on the team (among players who played 15 minutes or more per game), according to NBA Advanced Stats.
