Should the Memphis Grizzlies sign recently waived Frank Kaminsky?
The Memphis Grizzlies are in the final days of the 2021-22 regular season and have some decisions to make before playoff rosters are solidified on April 11 at 2 p.m. CST.
While the roster is currently full, the team should look at every avenue possible to bolster their roster for a deep run in the playoffs.
To sign a player, the team would have to part ways with a player, most likely Yves Pons.
To have a newly signed player on your team compete in the playoffs, they have to be signed by April 10.
One player the Grizzlies should consider making a move for is Frank Kaminsky, who was just waived by the Phoenix Suns.
Should the Memphis Grizzlies sign free agent Frank Kaminsky?
Kaminsky, the former No. 9 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, has been sidelined for the last couple of months with a knee injury. He underwent surgery in January and was set to be re-evaluated in eight weeks, which David Aldridge of The Athletic reported.
Not much is known yet whether or not Kaminsky could be ready in time for the playoffs, but common sense would say probably not since the Phoenix Suns just waived him.
However, this would be an intriguing opportunity for the Grizzlies to swoop in and buy low for a nice return in the future. Go ahead and sign him now while he can’t play and hope that he can return to form next season as a regular contributor.
Kaminsky would be a great big man off the bench for Memphis. The 7-footer can step out and hit the occasional three-point shot.
Before his injury, Kaminsky was averaging 10.6 ppg, 4.6 RPG, and 33.3% shooting from three. It’s a small sample size of 9 games, but he was on pace for a career-best season.
Kaminsky could slide in nicely in a bench unit with Tyus Jones, De’Anthony Melton, Ziaire Williams, and Brandon Clarke.
