3 targets to aim for if the Memphis Grizzlies trade Dillon Brooks
Memphis Grizzlies trade Dillon Brooks for big backup point guard
Another option in this hypothetical Brooks trade scenario is to flip him for an upgraded backup point guard.
If Tyus Jones is prioritizing a starting role over financial gain, that’s something the Grizzlies simply can’t offer him. The team will need to find a replacement that can play starting-level minutes if there’s ever a situation in which Morant can’t play.
The Grizzlies should look to help unburden the Chicago Bulls with their guard logjam. They have Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan, Ayo Dosumnu, Coby White and (maybe or maybe not Zach LaVine, who is an unrestricted free agent).
The Grizzlies should target Coby White, a player who would give the team size, scoring and three-point shooting behind Ja Morant.
White, 22, in his third season out of UNC, played 61 games and started 17, averaging 27.5 minutes per contest. He averaged 12.7 PPG, 2.9 APG and 3 RPG on 43.3 FG% (38.5 3P%).
We know how important it is to have someone who can take over the reigns as a starter in Memphis, with the fast, physical and fearless level of play from Ja Morant.
White was terrific in his 17 games as a starter for Chicago last season, averaging 16.5 PPG, 4.3 APG, and 4.1 RPG, according to Stat Muse.
The 6’5” and 195-pound White would give Memphis a little bit of added size to defend opposing point guards. Tyus Jones is listed at 6’0” and Morant is listed at 6’3” and 174 lbs, so having someone who’s a little bulkier would be a nice luxury.
The Grizzlies should exhaust every possible avenue to upgrade the roster and shore up weaknesses if they decide to put Brooks on the trade block.
Guys like White, Kuzma or even a rookie like Jalen Duren would be attractive options for the team if they start to wheel and deal this offseason.
