Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant gets his max rookie extension

We saw a slew of superstars sign massive extensions on day one of free agency.

Reigning MVP and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic signed the most lucrative deal in NBA history (five years, $270 million).

Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker landed a four-year, $224 million deal.

Washington’s All-Star Bradley Beal agreed to a five-year, $251 million.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns got a four-year, $224 million.

And perhaps most importantly, our own Ja Morant. The star point guard, who is entering his fourth season in the NBA, agreed to a five-year, $194 million contract. His extension could be worth up to $231 million if certain achievements are met, such as being named to another All-NBA team, according to Woj.

Memphis Grizzlies have yet to emerge as a potential suitor for Kevin Durant

There have been a couple of teams mentioned as preferred destinations for superstar Kevin Durant as he shocked the NBA world hours before free agency began, demanding a trade.

The Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns were named in multiple reports for one of the best players in the league. Some offshore sites give the Memphis Grizzlies the second-best odds behind Phoenix to land Durant.

No team has emerged as an imminent destination and Brooklyn will likely take their time in sifting through a multitude of offers that will change the course of their franchise for years to come.

If the Grizzlies enter the Durant sweepstakes, they’ll likely have to part with numerous picks, expiring contracts, and multiple players that show extreme promise— guys like Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. and/or Ziaire Williams.

We put up a straw poll on Twitter about fans’ thoughts on Memphis going all-in on Durant. It’s basically held to a 60/40 split in favor of pursuing the two-time Finals MVP.
