Does Jaren care about winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23?

Jaren Jackson Jr. was in strong consideration all of last season to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

His 177 total blocks made him the block champion of the league, and he was awarded with an All-Defensive first team nod, however he ultimately finished fifth in DPOY voting.

This was a great accomplishment for the 22 year old Jackson Jr., but he made it clear on media day that he is coming for the award this season once he returns.

When asked if he hoped to win the Defensive Player of the Year award this season, he stated:

"“Oh for sure. That’s the goal every year. I want it badly. I’m upset that I didn’t get it last year. Definitely wanted it.”"

He also added that since he couldn’t do most basketball activities for a little while this offseason, he watched a lot of film.

"“Just knowing where players are gonna be before hand gets me to spots quicker. Also knowing not to go for all of them… it’s about just challenging shots and not as much blocking them all time time.”"

If Jaren puts this film study to use this season, he will have a very good shot at coming away with the much coveted award.

The main argument for him not winning the award last season was his foul trouble issues, so if he can clean those up while still averaging 2.3 blocks and 0.9 steals per game he should have a very good shot.

Jaren Jackson. Jr. certainly cares about being the Defensive Player of the Year, and is determined to win the award in 2022-23.
