6. Gorgui Dieng

Fans may forget that Dieng played for the Grizzlies as he saw action in just 39 games over parts of two seasons. He was traded to Memphis in February 2020 just before the shutdown. The Grizzlies waived him just over one year later as they embraced their youth movement.

Dieng has bounced around since leaving Memphis, including five stints with the Spurs. The 33-year-old big man is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and he will be looking for a bench role. Dieng is best suited as a third-string center at this point. It will be interesting to see if he prioritizes his role or contending on the open market this summer.

The Memphis Grizzlies are loaded with big men. Jaren Jackson Jr., Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, Xavier Tillman, Santi Aldama, David Roddy, Jake LaRavia, and Kenneth Lofton Jr. are all under contract for next season, and the franchise is expected to focus on improving their wing depth this summer.

Do not expect to see Gorgui Dieng back in Memphis. If the veteran big man wants to continue playing, he will have to take a minimum contract as a reserve center. Where does the 6’10 big man end up next season? It is a story worth watching this offseason.
