When does NBA Training Camp start? Key dates Grizzlies fans need to know

This week marks the official kickoff to the NFL regular season though, to pureblooded basketball fans, it just means they’re that much closer to the start of the 2023-24 NBA season. As of this writing, it has been nearly three months since meaningful NBA action has taken place, while Memphis Grizzlies fans are now inching toward five months of dormancy.
Luckily, Grind City’s faithful followers have already been gifted the knowledge of when they can expect to see their beloved franchise take to the hardwood once more, with an official season tip-off slated to take place on October 25 in a home game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Of course, before they get to their opener, the Grizzlies will need to partake in preseason shenanigans, including, but not limited to, training camp, preliminary play, etc.
When does training camp start?
For the Grizzlies, training camps are expected to open a bit later than some other clubs, as the official start technically is scheduled for September 27 for teams participating in a preseason game outside of the United States.
Memphis will be holding all of its contests in the homeland, thus making their start date October 3. However, veteran players will be allowed to report to their respective teams a day earlier on October 2.
When is Media Day for the Grizzlies?
As of this writing, no official date has been announced for Grizzlies Media Day. That said, one can likely infer that it will come right before the start of their October 3 training camp opening, for last season Media Day was held literally the day prior on September 27.
Grizzlies preseason schedule
Thursday, October 5 is the official start to the 2023 NBA preseason. The Grizzlies will not be taking part in the festivities until October 8, when they’ll play host to the Indiana Pacers.
A full breakdown of their preseason schedule reads as follows:
- October 8: vs Pacers
- October 10: vs Bucks
- October 12: at Hawks
- October 15: at Heat
- October 20: at Bucks
When does the Grizzlies roster have to be set for the 2023-24 season?
Memphis may seemingly have the majority of their rotational foundation set in stone, but considering they currently have 17 people attached to contracts heading into the 2023-24 season the club’s decision-makers will need to make some proper adjustments to cut this number down to the required max of 15.
The deadline for them to do so is currently set for Monday, October 23 at 5 p.m. ET.
