The Memphis Grizzlies' offseason has been a busy one since their disappointing end to the 2024-25 season. The immediate aftermath of their moves has resulted in doubt by the sportsbooks, as evidenced by DraftKings' win total for them being set at 40.5 for the 2025-26 season.
The moves they have made haven't exactly made them better immediately, but offer promise for later in the season and future seasons. They have kicked off each wave of offseason transactions, first with the trading of Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for the trade season. They followed it up by announcing the renegotiation and extension for Jaren Jackson Jr. to begin NBA free agency.
Memphis will always be an intriguing team to watch as long as Ja Morant is on their roster. He has been a winner since being drafted by the team in 2019, so gamblers should keep that in mind when deciding to bet on the over or under for the Grizzlies' win total for the upcoming season.
Always bet the over for the Memphis Grizzlies' win total
While last season ended disappointingly for the Grizzlies, they still won more games than the over/under that was set for them. They finished the regular season with 48 wins, slightly over their set number of 47.5. This included a second-half collapse that saw them finish the regular season 12-16, after beginning with a 36-18 record through the NBA All-Star break.
The Grizzlies rank in the top six of NBA teams to average over one win above their set win total since 2010. In the Ja Morant era that began in 2019, Memphis has achieved the over of their set win total every season except the 2023-24 season.
With their win total set at 40.5, DraftKings Sportsbook penalized them the most for the Desmond Bane trade that brought them back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, and four first-round draft picks. Two of those draft picks were used to trade for their 11th overall pick of last month's draft, Cedric Coward.
Memphis has made additional moves like signing the 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year finalist Ty Jerome from the Cleveland Cavaliers and swapping out Jay Huff for Jock Landale at the center position. The offseason is far from over, but as currently constructed they are projected as the 9th team in the Western Conference.
A healthy Ja Morant would be a good bet to ensure that won't be the case for the team. However, his health has been a big question for the team over the last couple of seasons, and the team has their starting frontcourt of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey questionable to begin next season, following offseason surgeries.
Despite the obvious concerns for their health and roster, Memphis is always a good bet to place on the over as long as Ja Morant is around.
