Not long after reports of the Grizzlies and D'Angelo Russell heading towards a likely split this offseason, the team may not be done yet on the trade front. Plus, to make matters even more interesting, they could be doing business with a division rival, the New Orleans Pelicans.
Marc Stein reported that the Pelicans have had conversations about trading Jordan Hawkins, and the Grizzlies are one of the teams that have checked in.

This is a good indication that the Grizzlies are not done making moves despite having to clear more roster spots before the season. With players such as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and D'Angelo Russell both being potential waive or trade candidates, could one of them potentially be included in a Jordan Hawkins deal?
With D'Angelo Russell being set to make $5.9 million next season and Jordan Hawkins being set to make just over $7 million, a Russell for Hawkins 1-for-1 swap could end up being a logical move. If a Hawkins to Memphis deal materializes, it's an intriguing flyer for the Grizzlies.
Jordan Hawkins is a low-risk flyer if the Grizzlies acquire him
It wasn't that long ago that Jordan Hawkins was selected 14th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. Similar to current Grizzlies such as Taylor Hendricks, GG Jackson II, and Kris Murray, Hawkins would join the list of former 2023 picks on the roster.
Despite being a crucial piece of UConn's 2023 national championship run and building a reputation as a high-level shooter, Hawkins has struggled as a shooter so far in the NBA. Hawkins is currently shooting 37.4% from the field and 34.8% from three for his career. While he has struggled significantly, it is entirely possible that he will benefit from a fresh start on a team like the Grizzlies.
Jordan Hawkins is still just 24 years old and would be on an expiring rookie deal for next season. The Grizzlies have shown a strong ability to find hidden gems in recent seasons, and maybe there's a chance they will revive Hawkins' career. However, if Hawkins still continues to struggle significantly, they would be out of his deal by the 2027 offseason.
It also can't be ruled out that the Grizzlies would be able to get some more assets for taking Hawkins' deal, given how much he has struggled so far. Regardless of if the Grizzlies are able to help Jordan Hawkins improve or not, it's another potential opportunity to add to all the assets they have. Plus, if Hawkins pans out, it's another win over a Pelicans team that is struggling to find direction.
It will be interesting to monitor what's next for the Grizzlies, but if a Jordan Hawkins to Memphis deal ends up materializing, it's an intriguing flyer.
