Now is a great time to bring back the conversation about the Grizzlies' Quinten Post signing. Despite some early fears of the Grizzlies overpaying Post, the Grizzlies clearly did well after the recent deal the Pelicans gave DeAndre Jordan. The Grizzlies' deal for Post is already starting to age well, and they also got to see a division rival make a costly mistake shortly after.

On a surface level, the Grizzlies signing Quinten Post to a three-year $30 million deal did not look great, but it was clear that the structure of the deal was favorable. Now in comparison, the Pelicans just gave DeAndre Jordan a two-year contract worth almost $8 million. Given how the center market was shaping up, the Grizzlies have to feel great about how things recently played out.

The Grizzlies simply got a better player and fit for them, while the Pelicans desperately gave out a contract they didn't need to give.

The Grizzlies outsmarted the Pelicans with the Post signing

One of the Grizzlies' biggest priorities this offseason was to improve the frontcourt around Zach Edey, and it's safe to say they've done a great job of that. Even after getting Isaiah Stewart, the Grizzlies needed to get another center behind him and Zach Edey. Now, the Grizzlies should be even more thrilled that they moved to get Quinten Post instead of waiting out the center market.

This already wasn't a strong center market heading into the summer, but it seems like the Grizzlies got a very good value when better understanding Post's deal. Giving Quinten Post $9 million guaranteed in Year 1 looks much better than the Pelicans giving DeAndre Jordan almost $4 million for this season.

Quinten Post is significantly younger and will certainly make more of an impact than someone like Jordan in the current stage of his career. It also helps that the Grizzlies still have one of the cheapest frontcourts in the league thanks to this year's draft and the fact that Zach Edey is still on his rookie deal.

Isaiah Stewart is also on a very reasonable deal as well, as he is set to make $15 million next season, along with having a team option for the 2027 offseason. The Grizzlies were in the perfect position to give Post a better deal, and it's already looking like they made the right choice to move when they did.

Moving quickly to get Post while the Pelicans signed Jordan to an unnecessary deal days later shows the clear difference in direction for both teams. The Grizzlies have fared well against the Pelicans in recent seasons and should rebuild quickly, while the Pelicans haven't committed to a real direction at all.

The Grizzlies have had a really strong offseason to start their rebuild, and it's looking like they got a clear leg up on the Pelicans in the process.
