In a season that had a lot go wrong for the Grizzlies, Olivier-Maxence Prosper proved that he was a good acquisition. After starting on a two-way contract, Prosper earned his way to a standard contract later in the season. Now, after a busy offseason, it looked like there were some potential questions about his future, but a recent report indicates that he should be here to stay.
Michael Scotto just dropped new intel throughout the league, and interestingly enough, Olivier-Maxence Prosper was one of the many names mentioned. Scotto had the following to say:
"Despite offseason acquisitions of Isaiah Stewart and Quinten Post, along with the return of Zach Edey, the Grizzlies want to retain Olivier-Maxence Prosper, HoopsHype has learned."
Olivier-Maxence Prosper, also known as "OMax," was previously selected 24th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. While OMax struggled to carve out a role in Dallas, he is turning a corner in Memphis and should be here to stay despite a dramatic roster overhaul.
There is still plenty of logic to keeping OMax in Memphis
Compared to some of the other standard contracts the Grizzlies have given two-way players in recent seasons, OMax got a two-year deal instead of four years for players such as Cam Spencer, Scotty Pippen Jr., etc. Understandably, teams would be interested in trading for him, as he enters free agency for the summer of 2027 and keeps growing as a player.
However, there is plenty of logic to keeping him in Memphis for next season. Olivier-Maxence Prosper will have a much more challenging path to minutes this upcoming season compared to last due to a frontcourt revamp and likely improved health on the roster. But OMax still possesses plenty of upside and, at the very worst, should be a solid end-of-rotation player this upcoming season.
OMax averaged 10 points and 3.5 rebounds in 53 games (24 starts) last season while also making 40.5% of his threes. While he might not reach that level of production again next season, there is still plenty to like.
He brings plenty of athleticism as a big wing, and the shooting leap he has made since arriving in Memphis will continue to serve him well. Given how much Iisalo loves to rotate, he should remain a welcome boost of energy on both ends of the floor every night.
The Grizzlies still have plenty of work to do to trim down their roster to 15 spots, but after a strong breakout season and Summer League, it looks like OMax should still be in the plans for the Grizzlies this upcoming season.
It will be important to watch out for other names in the Grizzlies' roster crunch, such as D'Angelo Russell and AJ Johnson. For now, it looks like Grizzlies fans will get to enjoy another season with OMax on the roster.
