Since the Memphis Grizzlies selected Zach Edey ninth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, the big man has been the recipient of some rather polarizing and polar opposite comments from both fans and media pundits alike.
From the positive reactions that suggest the big could be a "sleeper for Rookie of the Year," to negative remarks that have gone as far as to label the rookie as "one of the worst picks I've seen in Draft history," depending on the day, outside commenters have shared varying degrees of thoughts and opinions of Edey.
However, his new Grizzlies cohorts have remained consistent with their enthusiasm and excitement over the behemoth center's arrival in the 38103, with the team's stud trio of Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr. each expressing their enthusiasm for his addition as early as draft night.
During Edey's debut Summer League outing on Monday night, Morant managed to keep the praise-filled remarks flowing, as he went to social media to publicly shout out the 22-year-old's performance, particularly during the closing seconds of regulation.
Ja Morant shouts out Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey's Summer League play
Following a missed free-throw attempt by Jake LaRavia in the closing seconds of regulation, Edey impressively managed to muscle through three bigs surrounding him to tap the ball up and lay it through the net as the buzzer expired, thus forcing overtime.
In reaction to the sequence of events, Morant excitedly posted on his personal X account to praise the Grizzlies rookie for his efforts.
Edey had himself quite an exhilarating debut outing that more than warranted praise from his superstar teammate and other studs from across the league, as he would wrap up with an impressive stat line of 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks while shooting a highly efficient 63.6 percent from the floor.
Though the Grizzlies ultimately wound up losing the exhibition by a final score of 97-95, the big man's performance was an encouraging sight to see for both fans and members of the franchise.
At the very least, Morant is hyped about his new franchise center's level of play on the night.
