Memphis Grizzlies 2016 Free Agency: 5 Best Remaining Fits
5. Donatas Motiejunas
Donatas Motiejunas is probably the most unlikely option on this list; however, it is an intriguing possibility.
If the Grizzlies could pull a low-buy deal for Motiejunas, they could flip Brandan Wright for a backup point guard (Shelvin Mack? Patrick Mills? Cory Joseph?). Donatas Motiejunas could serve as a stretch 5 or space the floor alongside Marc Gasol or Zach Randolph.
His 3-point shooting touch also compliments Jarell Martin and JaMychal Green’s games.
After a cluster season with the Rockets last season, his market value has dipped. Motiejunas’ production plummeted across the board.
His points per game total dropped from 12.0 to 6.2; his 3-point percentage from 36.8 percent to 28.1 percent; his rebounding from 5.9 to 2.9; and his minutes from 28.7 to 14.8.
It did not help that he was dealing with back issues, which prevented a trade deadline deal to Detroit.
A change of scenery and a full recovery should make Motiejunas one of the most serviceable backup big men in the game. At the age of 25, Motiejunas has the tools to thrive anywhere he goes, even the Memphis Grizzlies.
