The ‘offseason’ has kicked into high gear! Big splashes – such as Paul George being traded to Oklahoma City – have already been made. Big names like Gordon Hayward may be unavailable for Memphis, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t moves to be made.

Editor’s note: In the original making of this post, the Memphis Grizzlies were targeting both Joe Ingles and Ben McLemore. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies lost on the Joe Ingles sweepstakes, so we couldn’t talk about him. Woj bombs are vicious, man.

Oh, free agency! It’s a wonderful time of dreams being made, teams being built, and Danny Ainge dropping the ball again. Needless to say, it’s not for the faint of heart.

All has been quiet on the Memphis front so far. Zach Randolph is meeting with other teams, while Tony Allen and Vince Carter remains inconspicuous. Outside of signing Wayne Selden to a two-year deal, Chris Wallace has made no moves, as of this article.

However, the Grizzlies still appear to be active behind the scenes in attempting to improve the roster. A certain player from Sacramento has entered the discussion.

Ben McLemore

Ben McLemore has been a case of unfulfilled potential in Sacaramento. He was the seventh pick out of Kansas in the 2013 NBA draft, yet he has yet to live up to that status. He has seen his minutes decrease over each of the last three seasons.

However, McLemore has the talent to potentially thrive in some new scenery. After all, the Sacramento Kings hasn’t been known for their player development over the last decade (or anything other than being bad for that matter). He’s a solid three-point shooter, as he shot 38 percent from downtown last season. Though he still has a ways to go on that end, he has flashed the ability to be an effective defender as well.

More from Grizzlies Free Agency

Perhaps under the guidance of David Fizdale, McLemore can finally become the shooting guard of the future for the Memphis Grizzlies. From Xavier Henry to Josh Selby to Wayne Selden, Chris Wallace has always loved his marginal Kansas players. It’ll be interesting to see if the Grizzlies decide to roll the dice on him.

Conclusion

The Grizzlies may not have the cap space to make any major splashes, but they’re obviously still working behind the scenes. Ben McLemore is an interesting piece that could improve the Grizzlies’ roster. Time is of the essence, and the Grizzlies will have to move fast to acquire any good pieces.
