All the fun stuff with free agency is over, so can the Memphis Grizzlies go ahead and re-sign JaMychal Green? Just makes things easier.

This offseason has been full of fireworks. After a loaded draft night, the NBA unleashed a flurry of star-studded trades which included Jimmy Butler, Paul George and Chris Paul. Gordon Hayward and Paul Millsap were two big names who switched teams in free agency. Then, the grand finale took place when Kyrie Irving wanted out of Cleveland and was moved to Eastern Conference rival, the Boston Celtics.

Since all the fireworks are out, can the Memphis Grizzlies just re-sign JaMychal Green already?

The power forward didn’t get the massive payday he expected. In fact, it’s Labor Day, and not a single deal has been made. At this point, a return to Memphis is inevitable.

The Grizzlies’ front office has played it smart with his restricted free agency. If they threw him something before he accepted an offer sheet somewhere else, they could’ve paid him more than the market price.

If another team wanted to sign him, it would’ve happened right now. His skill-set is valuable in today’s NBA. He can defend multiple positions and shoot the rock from deep — a rare combination from today’s power forwards.

As training camp approaches, the Memphis Grizzlies need to get something done. Having these contract talks linger into training camp is nothing but a meaningless distraction.

JaMychal Green is going to be a Grizzly next season. In fact, he has to be a Grizzly. Memphis has no choice.

Jarell Martin isn’t ready. Brandan Wright and Deyonta Davis are better suited as centers. Ivan Rabb — the Grizzlies’ second-round pick — isn’t even signed yet. They need a power forward like JaMychal Green to make it to the playoffs.

Is a deal on the horizon?

According to the Commercial Appeal’s Chris Herrington, the Grizzlies and Green have talked about a deal:

"They’ve offered significantly more than that, but also significantly less than Green and his agent were probably expecting when the process began."

If the Grizzlies can offer him a deal like Patrick Patterson’s contract (three-year, $15M), they’ll retain Green for tremendous value.

JaMychal Green is a key piece to the Grizzlies’ puzzle next season. Can they just go ahead and calm everyone’s nerves by reaching a deal?
