Second Quarter

The start of this quarter heavily relied upon the defensive game from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Going into the second quarter, Memphis was only shooting 43% from the field. This is higher than the 31% demonstrated by Indiana heading into this quarter of play.

Also, during this quarter, rookie Jevon Carter made his appearance. During the first few minutes, the Grizzlies were not playing as well as they should have been. They allowed Indiana to take a slight lead due to their inability to shoot effective shots and the inability to block in the post.

The three-point game was not a large part in Saturday’s contest. Up to the eight-minute mark, the Memphis Grizzlies had only gone 4/14 behind the arc. Overall, it was an effective quarter that allowed Coach Bickerstaff to see which player complemented each other on the court and which ones were best on offense and/or defense.

Still, in this quarter, Selden was the leader offensively. Jackson Jr. was able to shoot a three-pointer in addition to making many plays in the post to draw fouls.

At the end of the first half, Memphis was still ahead 52 to 46. Jaren Jackson Jr. made a noticeable impact with eight points and four rebounds. Wayne Selden was still leading offensively with 12 points. Both teams were shooting less that 40%.
