Tyus Jones

One of Memphis’ free agent signings this offseason, Tyus Jones appears to be a great pickup for the Grizzlies. A proven second-unit leader, Jones provides the Grizzlies with a safety net if Morant falters. Jones led qualified players in assist-to-turnover ratio last season with an incredible 6.96. Despite his smaller stature, he is a sound, gritty defender that fans will love. Jones is able to comfortably run an offense and is a very smart player, two qualities that will benefit the Grizzlies greatly.

Jones’ ability and willingness to play as a starter or a bench player will provide Coach Jenkins with some flexibility to experiment with his backcourt. Jones has shown the ability to play at whatever pace he’s asked to. He can orchestrate the offense in the half-court, which is an area most young teams struggle in. He’s an excellent game manager, and keeps the team on the same page. His calm, yet quick approach to the game will help the Grizzlies maintain control as they look to play fast this season.

At only 23 years old, he fits the team’s timeline and is a player that could be in Memphis for a long time. As they improve, the duo of Jones and Morant could become one of the league’s better point guard rotations.
