5. February 6th, 2020: The Justise Winslow trade

It’s not really talked about anymore, but the Grizzlies were in a tough spot going into this year’s trade deadline. They had Andre Iguodala on the books, who was only being a drain on their financial books since he decided that he wasn’t going to play for the team.

Although this trade does rank at the bottom of the list, it was more of a trade of necessity than it was a trade to acquire new talent. Still, the talent didn’t turn out too well for the Grizzlies. In return for Iguodala, Jae Crowder, and Solomon Hill, the Grizzlies got Dion Waiters, James Johnson, and an injured Justise Winslow.

As of writing this, Winslow still hasn’t played a game for Memphis due to his injury, and Waiters and Johnson are no longer on the quad. In essence, the Grizzlies traded away two good rotational players in Hill and Crowder for a player that’s, right now, nothing more than a lot of potential. And potential is good, just not always for a rebuilding team looking for the finishing pieces.
