3. July 7th, 2019: The Josh Jackson trade

The Grizzlies rebuild into a playoff contending team really began last summer. While it was overshadowed by what was probably the most exciting free agency period in recent memory, the Grizzlies had an amazing offseason. The draft brought in Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke, and the Grizzlies maneuvered through trades and signings to bring in some solid rotation pieces.

One of those trades saw the Grizzlies send Kyle Korver and Jevon Carter to the Phoenix Suns for Josh Jackson, De’Anthony Melton and a few draft picks. While Melton hasn’t shaped up to be the player that the Grizzlies had hoped he would be, Jackson has shown glimpses of his former self since moving up from the Memphis Hustle.

Where potential was a drawback in the Justise Winslow trade, potential is what’s keeping all Grizzlies fans hopes up with Jackson. That’s mainly because, unlike Winslow, Jackson has played a few games for Memphis and shown that potential does translate to on-court production. Jackson has been averaging 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. His production down in the G League has been even better, and gives a lot of optimism to Memphis fans.
