When can we officially worry about Ja Morant’s shooting?

When it comes to NBA stars like Ja Morant, you learn to forgive them for the downsides of their game. In Morant’s case, we’ve given him time to get into a rhythm this year from the 3-point line, but he doesn’t seem to be improving as a shooter. He was injured, he’s missing his co-star, etc.

He didn’t set the bar very high last season, knocking down 33.5% of his threes, but it was nothing to worry about from your star point guard. He had plenty of game to make up for this. That being said, we expected to see some growth this season.

After a bad start, this is when he should be stepping up and hitting some shots. Slumps are okay, but when does that slump turn into a problem? If his shooting percentage had dropped slightly, then sure, we could give him a break. But the young Grizzly is shooting 25% from the 3-point line this year. He has time to improve, but this could affect the teams instant success.

He didn’t help his cause today either, missing every three he took on 5 attempts. I don’t think it’s time to hit the panic button yet, but this is a storyline to keep your eyes on as the 2020-2021 season continues.
