The Grizzlies showed their depth down low

Granted, the Pistons are arguably the league’s weakest team when it comes to the power forward and center positions in the absence of Blake Griffin, but the Grizzlies showed that any member of their team can control the game down low.

This started off with a dominating first quarter from Jonas Valanciunas and finished with a really strong game from the rookie, Xavier Tillman. In the first quarter, the Grizzlies outscored the Pistons in the paint 24-6. I’m not a huge numbers guy, but that doesn’t sound good for Detroit.

In between, we saw a really strong game from Brandon Clarke, who finished his outing with a plus/minus of +27, the highest on the team. These three guys were the only power forwards or centers that saw the court today, but they would still combine for 30 rebounds.

We didn’t see Gorgui Dieng on the court tonight, but it looked like Memphis didn’t need him. When Jaren Jackson Jr. returns, this team is going to have more options down low than they’ll know what to do with.
