Former Memphis Grizzlies player No. 3: Rudy Gay, PF, San Antonio Spurs

Has it been long enough? Are any of you old enough to remember Rudy Gay was once a Grizzly?

That’s right. Rudy was drafted by the Rockets in 2006 and then traded shortly after to Memphis in a deal for Shane Battier.

Rudy was a very impactful player for the Grizzlies early on in his career, spending about six and a half years in Memphis. With the Grizzlies, Gay averaged a very respectable 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.9 blocks.

However, in 2013, Gay was traded to the Toronto Raptors as a part of a three-team trade, also including the Detroit Pistons. After about 50 games in Toronto, Gay was traded again, this time to the Sacramento Kings.

Gay then spent four seasons with the Kings, averaging borderline all-star numbers. After the 2016-17 season, Rudy decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs after hitting free agency, which is where he currently resides.

This season, Rudy is experiencing life coming off the bench in San Antonio, but he is still putting up solid numbers. Gay is averaging 11.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.5 assists, shooting 42% from the field and almost 37% from three, in 22 minutes per game, earning him number three on the list.
