Memphis Grizzlies SG Dillon Brooks has had a disappointing year in the eyes of the Player Efficiency Rating

Before I tell you about Dillon Brooks’ PER rating, I have to give you a frame of reference for what it means. The league average PER will always be 15.0, so anything less than that is considered below-average play and anything beyond that is considered above-average play.

That being said, Dillon Brooks’ PER stands at a disappointing 10.76, the lowest of any shooting guard on the team that has been receiving significant minutes.

This means that Brooks has been performing at a disappointing level so far this year. As somebody who has watched every game, it’s hard to say that he’s been disappointing, but his efficiency has definitely taken a step back for the Grizz.

Based on this list alone, it’s safe to assume that the PER ignores defense, which has been a long-time criticism of the metric. That being said, Dillon Brooks could play a bit better, but his PER doesn’t tell the whole story.

Brooks is top player between the two and three positions on the court, so if the Grizzlies want to see some success in the future, he’ll have to step up his play.
