Jaren Jackson Jr.’s return will give the Grizzlies a terrifying front court

As of right now, Jonas Valanciunas is holding things down in the front court. He’s been an elite rebounder and a really solid scoring option, giving this team exactly what they have needed in Jaren Jackson Jr.’s absence.

But one area that the Lithuanian giant struggles in is certain areas on defense. For example, we’ve seen teams absolutely feast in the mid-range game against a JJJ-less team.

But Jackson Jr.’s return will put any defensive worries to bed. In fact, most of this team’s defensive issues stem from a lack of size and overcompensation by Taylor Jenkins. It’s not his fault, just the way that he’s forced to defend without his young star.

Valanciunas and Jackson Jr. compliment each other perfectly. Valanciunas is a solid scorer who can pull in any rebound necessary, while Jackson Jr. is an elite shot-blocker and won’t give up anything defensively for this team.

When Jackson Jr. returns from injury, there won’t be many front courts who can match the Grizzlies talent. JV’s explosive season in 2021 has come at the perfect time and will prove to be an issue for opposing teams down the road.
