The Memphis Grizzlies’ small forward position became interesting with Justise Winslow’s return

The Memphis Grizzlies’ small forward position also seemed cut-and-dried earlier in the year. But with the return of Justise Winslow just over a month ago, things have become more interesting down the stretch.

Winslow is technically a power forward and Kyle Anderson is technically a small forward, but these two guys have each been rotating between the two positions. In a modern NBA, it can be hard to pin down who has been playing where, but for the sake of this article, we’ll call Winslow a small forward.

That said, Winslow is not the starting small forward — that honor goes to Dillon Brooks. Brooks earns the second-most minutes of any player on this team and securely holds down the small forward spot for about 30 minutes each game.

If he’s not in the game, you’ll see a group of players receive minutes at the small forward spot. This ranges from De’Anthony Melton if the Grizz are playing small-ball, to Justise Winslow and Kyle Anderson. Even Desmond Bane spends some time at the three.

While this is one of the most secure positions from a starting lineup perspective, there isn’t much depth at the pure small forward position. Expect to see the five mentioned players rotate in and out of this spot for the remainder of the year.
