Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman could create a tradition for the Memphis Grizzlies

I started thinking about what Randolph accomplished in Memphis, and thinking to myself: Jaren and X could definitely continue the kind of success that he saw here, and could maybe even dial it up further. How cool would that be?

Zach Randolph played his best basketball while he was in Memphis. Both of his All-Star seasons were in Memphis. He’s the Grizzlies’ second-best all-time rebounder, and at one point was the all-time leader in made field goals for Memphis (he’s now third).

On top of all that, he led the franchise to its first playoff victory in 2011, and then to its first Western Conference Finals appearance in 2013.

Also, let’s not forget about the time he punched Steven Adams in the jaw — maybe not the best move in hindsight, but a blunt reminder of his no-nonsense play style that isn’t often seen in the NBA anymore.

My point is that Z-Bo is a legend… and he doesn’t have to be the only one. He’s arguably the best Grizzlies player of all time. To me, it seems like the front office folks in Grind City are looking to replicate and build off of the success they saw while he was around.

So, how fitting would it be for another former Spartan — or maybe even two — to continue what he started? To bring success to Memphis, the way he did it, via the boards and consistent scoring in the paint?
